Looking to replace the speakers in my 5150 combo

Post by gbsmusic » Sat Jan 07, 2023 5:43 pm

I'm interested in replacing the stock speakers, I'm not a fan of vintage 30s so they really aren't an option. I'm just curious what people have replaced the stock speakers with and how they sound I'm considering going with Celestion Creambacks anybody have any experience with these? Thank you in advance for any advice.

I have not used the Creambacks.

When ever I am in need of a replacement speaker, I contact Weber Speakers. They make great stuff and always have quick and good responses to help select a speaker from what I am looking for. I would hit them up.

You can take the Eminence Swamp Thang and the Legend 1218. The Swamp Thang is known for its huge low end and 1218 is nice and even sounds to balance it out a bit. They are both 150W, so you will have 300W of power.

I installed a set of Creamback 65’s in my 5150 combo and have been absolutely satisfied. The Creamback’s offer a warmer tone, to my ears, over the Sheffields. I looked at the V30’s and they were too bright to me I also looked at the Creamback 75’s and they were brighter than the 65’s but not as bright as the V30’s. To my ears, they were in between the Creamback 65’s and the V30’s. The Creamback 65’s were clearly the best choice for me. Also, it didn’t hurt getting this recommendation straight from Celestion. I liked them so much that I installed another set in a empty Avatar 212 as an extension cab for my combo. If you’re going to mix your speakers I’d like to suggest a Creamback 65 and 75. Good luck!
