Remove 112-6 back panel

Post by NewPeaveyGuy » Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:35 am

I have a brand new 112-6. I want to open the back, but, the screws are in ‘so tight’ they won’t turn. I gave up because my screwdriver started chewing up the screwdriver slot on top of the screws.

Any suggestions?

I suggest a hand impact driver.

You put it in the screw, hold the handle part of the driver to keep it from turning, and hit the end with a hammer. The mechanism inside the handle translates the downward force to rotation. The downward force also keeps the screwdriver bit from backing out of the screw. For stuck Phillips screws these work better than electric or even air impact drivers because of the downward force from the hammer. Less expensive too.

I bought one in the 1970s to get Phillips screws out of motorcycle engines. I've used it countless times since. Once you have one of these, you will never want to be without one.

Here's a link to an Amazon search for "hand impact driver":

Ignore the images and links to electric impact drivers, these result are a hijacking of the search.
