Buzzing in stock Bandit 65 speaker

Post by Camaro Guy » Wed Nov 30, 2022 8:24 pm

An FYI in case any one else runs into this problem. I had a buzzing sound on certain notes (especially the low E string) on a Bandit 65 I picked up recently. After pulling the magnet, checking the voice coil, checking for binding, etc., I figured out that the problem was the adhesive bonding the paper cone to the metal frame in the Scorpion speaker. Over the years, it had degraded about halfway around the circle so the cone was no longer held in place all the way around. I epoxied the cone back into place and everything sounds great.

I too have encountered this issue with old speakers and also the spider on the back side of the cone can come unglued from the frame. I wonder how many speakers have been trashed over the years that were easily fixable.
The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.
