Tubes for Peavey Vintage 4x10

Post by mokoffee » Fri Sep 23, 2022 4:05 pm

I've got an old 70's Vintage 4x10 and have been using 5881 tubes in it. Mainly because thats what my amp tech guy put in it.But...the tubes dont last very long before they start to crap out. Several months of light playing. The amp has a solid state preamp and 4 power tubes. 6L6GC is what my schematics show as the original tubes. It looks like from the schematic that plate voltage is 480V. The 5881s maximum plate voltage rating is 400V. Just wondering if that is the reason that Im not getting much life out of these 5881s. Im thinking of switching to Tung-Sol 6l6GC-STRs rated at 500V plate voltage.
