Replacement speakers for Special 212

Post by OldSoul » Wed Nov 24, 2021 11:43 pm

Just inherited a Peavey Special 212 and I’d like to upgrade the speakers. The current setup is 2-16ohm Sheffields. If I installed 2 8ohm speakers, would that be an issue for this amp? How can I check?

You have an 8 ohm load now. Two 8 ohm speakers makes a 4 ohm load. The amp is rated to 4 ohms, so you should be OK. But the amp won;t work as hard into 8 ohms. DO you already have the 8 ohm speakers?

Thx Enzo! I have one 8ohm speaker laying around, and I was contemplating purchasing another. But I guess you’re recommending to sticking with 8ohm load setup, correct?

It would be my preference, but as I said, the amp is rated down to 4 ohms.
