Classic 50 speaker output jacks

Post by John_P » Fri Sep 03, 2021 3:33 am

Hi,
My Classic 50 (old narrow panel version) got two speaker output jacks; 16 and 8 ohms.
According to the manual the 8 ohm jack is supposed to connect to a 16 ohm extension cabinet.

-Would it be possible to disconnect the integrated speakers (2x8 ohm) and replace them with an 8 ohm speaker cab connected to the 8 ohm speaker output?

I don't want to try this if it could damage the amp.

Thanks

Yes. All the amp knows is how many ohms the load on it has. Normally a 16 ohm external speaker combines with a 16 ohm internal speaker to make an 8 ohm load But if you want to disconnect the internal speakers and tape off the wires then plug an 8 ohm cab into the jack, go ahead.

Thanks Enzo,

Another question regarding the output jacks:

When the 8 ohms transfer jack is engaged (and the tranformer operates on the 8 ohm tap);

-Is NFB resistance the same as for the 16 ohms tap? If so, -Are we getting less NFB when running the amp on 8 ohms?

The NFB has no idea what tap you are using, it is a voltage signal off the tap it is designed for, and that doesn't change with different loads.
