peavey standard manufacture date from serial number
peavey standard manufacture date from serial number
I have a peavey standard 260H that i am trying to date. the serial number is 5a-42240. haven't had luck figuring out the manufature date. i read somewhere that the first two numbers were the production year, but this amp is definitely not from 42. thanks guys.
Re: peavey standard manufacture date from serial number
Wrong first two numbers. The A is for amplifier. (Speaker ENCLOSURES have an E) The 5 means 1975, or 1985. My choice is 1985 since the amp was designed in the 1980s.
In my long career in this biz I never worried about the age of an amp, I worry about the condition.
If you look on the controls inside you will generally see numbers. a number like 137-8126 tells us the following 137 mans CTS made the pot and 8126 means it did so in the 26th week of 1981. Peavey also often stamps their part number on pots, a number might look like 71190410. No date is hidden in that number. The transformer probably has a date code and large parts like filter caps do too. If you know when the parts were made, you have a good idea when the amp was built.

Thanks a lot for the info. I have to replace a pot so i'll look at the other parts for dates.

Hi new member here -
Can anyone tell me the age of my Peavey Sessions 400? It has a 6A prefix but then only 5 digits instead of the 8 I usually read about?
Serial number - 6A-66165
I appreciate any help!

Re: peavey standard manufacture date from serial number
I think they lost their data base in 2006.
I have the Red Delta 112 transtube series 2, the last American made 112 bandit Amp, (red stripe) its awesome, i see that i can wind down the watts, and light it up at any volume..
it will gain a Eminence fat Texas 150w speaker at some stage. Or a 100w dual speaker 4ohm cab maybe the go, its versatile thats for sure, it lacks the aux jack but i can get buy on a loop, i think is built in, but its new to me, i pick it up tomorow .. tested it, its huge, 80w amp that loves a 150w speaker apparently, brings it to life, its that powerful..
i traded the Trace Elliot tramp amp 65 watt beast, hey its Brittish, i tried, i realy tried, but its a moody amp with weird channels, with one tube, its not for me, killer green back celestion tho.
My line 6 20w died, my 80s peavey rage is 10w, still cool, works ok
, the cheap 30w marshall sucked, so did the cheap chinese fender, my vintage megatone 35w rocks,
The 112 will be my last combo, and probably the best of any combo, but not including the teal stripe, silver stripe combos, or 5150. Ive wanted the red 112 for ages, it finally arrived, hardly used, well kept.

Re: peavey standard manufacture date from serial number
I'm guessing this is new... You can just type in the serial number to find out the date manufactured using the Peavey website here... https://secure.peavey.com/serial-lookup/
