Peavey Valveking II 50 W combo schematic

Post by matgus9 » Thu Jul 23, 2020 3:55 am

Hi,
This is more than a tiny bit embarassing. I tried to bias the 6L6GC tubes in my Peavey Valveking II 50 W combo. I have had problems with the protection circuit kicking in when driving the amp too hard with overdrive and dist pedals. I figured that if I checked the biasing it might take care of the problem. There is a hole in the chassi for acessing the trim pot. I managed to stick the, thankfully, plastic handle, screwdriver in the wrong hole (nearby). There was a spark and one of the tube protection lamps went red. Both power tubes glow, but the amp does not work at full effect and it doesn't sound good. I pulled out the amp after disconnecting the mains to let the caps discharge. I also checked for remaining caps charge with a multimeter before sticking my nose into it. The cap marked C21 is melted with black residue beneath. It is a 104 cap, but I don't know what type and specs. No fuses are blown (checked with meter). I can't find a schematic for the amp (schematics are available for the generation 1 Valvekings, but the 50 W 112 combo is not the same as gen 2. I'm not good with electronics, but figured that I might attempt to replace the cap and take it from there and trace the signal. I do, however, have people to ask about general electronics, but they are not tube amp persons. Would anyone be so kind and send me a schematic (I have also emailed Peavey, and await response)?
Cheers,

Go ahead and call Peavey Customer Service to request the schematic. You will likely have it emailed to you within minutes. Contacting Customer Service via email will take longer, especially during these unusual 2020 (I've grown tired of using the "C" word) times.

Would you be so kind as to shoot me a copy of the schematic?
I just did a tube mod & disconnected the R117 so the boost works in both channels. As soon as the granddaughter wakes from her nap I'll crank it up.
Thank,
Mgee

Anyone have a mod to tame the drive channel some? It has more gain then I ever use.
