Triple XXX frying noise

Post by twangin6 » Tue Jan 28, 2020 11:30 pm

My Triple xxx makes a frying sound with an occasional crackle with or with anything plugged into the input. Any Idea where to start? Got a new set of 6L6 power tubes. I was hoping use it for a gig this weekend.....

Do the usual spray a plug with Deoxit and work it in/out every jack.

Beyond that, my first C30 was purchased used and it had some weird whooshing sound with the occasional crackle. New preamp tubes cured it.

Side note: which Triple XXX are we talking about?

120 watt head, I think it is a 2006, 4 6L6 power tubes.

Sounds like a cold solder joint or grounding issue. Give it a good whack on the top and see if it goes away. Usually find these to be some type of connection problem or loose ground.

Full tube set took care of it.
so you say without a full set of tubes there is always a possibility it would generate that noise?

It says that one of the tubes was making that noise. Replacing all of them covered it.
