Peavey vip 1

I have recently purchased a Peavey vip 1 and have tried lots of different setting to try to get distortion, is there anyone who can give me the settings to do this or do I need a pedal

Select the XXX amp then press the amp knob once or twice. If you don't get any distortion either your amp or your guitar is defective. In fact pushing the map knob on just about any amp model should give you plenty of distortion

I have that amp, and the first setting on "Instrument A" is a distorted sound. Mine right now is the 6505, but when I first bought it new, it was either that or the XXX, and if it was the XXX, I changed it to 6505. Either way, that setting was a heavily distorted sound out of the box.

Have you tried cycling through the "Instrument" presets?
