Peavey Vypyr 75W Interesting Issue!

Post by sdiefko » Tue Nov 21, 2017 2:25 pm

Hey guys I bought a Peavey Vypyr 75w and it works but it has a constant sound which basically sounds like a radio without a station on. Also when you change different amps, increase gain etc etc the sound changes along with that. So what may be causing the problem? I tried playing it through the headphones output to see if the speaker is at fault but there's no difference at all! Would really appreciate some help, thanks!!

My tube 60 picks up radio faintly in the background often. Tube 120, vypyr 30, 15, no such issues. And it has only ever happened in my garage. Sensitive electronics can do weird stuff sometimes. Not a defect, probably a result of simple interference.

Try running a pedal in front of the amp that is buffered, such as a Boss.
I have found that any form of Low Impedance Buffer reduces background metallic buzzing and other weird electronic "radio" type noises with my Vypyr 30.

I think he is describing hiss - his radio not tuned to a station. I don't think he is hearing radio stations.

Excess hiss is usually a noisy semiconductor.
