some of the most versitile peavey amps around.
Re: some of the most versitile peavey amps around.
LOL The Vyper amp should have been renamed the Diaper cause when they hit the market they stunk just like the SS garbage they done to them..
He Peavey if you make the product, try not to push them on the market before a deadline if they are not right from the production line.
The inherent Squeal of Death in them forced me to take it back for a Roland Cube 60 that has never failed yet.
Despite the wonderful Peavey Rep that said he was coming out to the shop to fix the issue with his magic laptop turned out to be a no show, for the three times he contacted him...
Nope I'll take the Tubes any day over SS

Peavey Rockmaster preamp.
3 channels- clean, crunch, ultra crunch. Crunch and ultra have pull gain boost.
Active EQ on crunch and ultra with pull mid voicing change.
Each channel has it's own effects loop, allowing you to run effects on sperate channels, leave them on and only need one stomp (dry crunch to clean with chorus, or crunch with delay to ultra with flange for example).
Also a loop for crunch/ultra and global(all channels).
1volt or 3 volt output. Bal. line out for direct rec.
Choose your power section to match conditions. British? EL 34 based poweramp. American style? 6L6 based poweramp. I've even run it through a SS poweramp and it sounds good
Versatile? Yes! For everybody? Maybe not, but it works for the Sargetone
YMMV

+1 to Sarge and the Rockmaster preamp. I have one I bought new when they first came out. I don't currently use it but can't bring myself to part with it.
With 5 effects loops and the abilty to swap tubes to change the sound it is highly versatile.

Now you got me thinking I need one of those, Sarge. I was just kicking a bit because I can't run effects on just one channel of my VK112 or my Heritage. The Rockmaster might just be my cup of tea, especially since I could probably run it through the power section of either of my 212 ampsSarge wrote:Peavey Rockmaster preamp.

Now to find one available when I have the funds free to snag it
Signature? What signature?

Is that Supreme just an upside-down Bandit, then?
I was just thinking about looks. Manufacturers who make SS amp lines don't really help themselves out. Much of the time, SS amps LOOK like SS amps. They look like a part of the PA. If the amp companies started spreading some tweed, or pinstripe grillcloth, or gold beading about the place, I'm sure they'd sell better. Line6 have just about got the hang of this, but Peavey haven't.

Re: some of the most versitile peavey amps around.
Good point here. A little Tweed and piping can help sell even the crappiest sounding amps! How many of us have fallen for the great looking, hot babe who is just not a very nice person? She makes rude, nasty sounds, all your friends hate her, she is out of control, undependable and mean sounding all the time, a heart breaker from the word go, but dude.......look at her!
As I tell my student who owns an overpriced, beautiful looking Tweed Blues Jr., which he keeps trying to make sound good with different expensive pedals purchased to try and overcome its total lack of any form of acceptable overdrive and incredibly mundane basic tone;
"It is a turd wrapped in Tweed." They sell like hotcakes.
He is desperately searching for acceptable tone options he is hoping will make him sound good, instead of just focusing on practicing what we work on in our lessons. Fooling with and trying to master a different rig every week is beyond his abilities and insures he will remain mediocre well into the future. I guess I will be the beneficiary, giving him more lessons! Trapped in the old Fender Tweed trap! I was there once with my first tweed, a Blues Deluxe. I can relate. I traded her for a look-alike Classic 30 with fake tweed that actually sounded good for what I needed. Saved! Thanks, Peavey!! LOL!!!
He is determined that the Tweed Turd can deliver the goods. I know better from experience, and prove to him every time he hears a Vypyr that he should have gotten the Vypyr for less than half the $$ like I told him to. A tweed Vypyr 30 would just not be fair to the competition!

Hey tommer, think you could tell us some of your opinions sometime? Haha!
Tweed is a good image for country, blues, and even rockabilly too. And don't forget peavey has made some black tweed amps as well.
I used to have an avatar 2x12 tweed cab. I played mostly metal and punk through it. It belonged to a poppunk/indie musician before me....
To at least act like that's on topic, tweed is very versatile.

Chad and Rug, good luck in finding your RM preamp. Just keep your eyes peeled and you'll find one eventually.
