so its a great amp ... once you modify the enclosure, replace the speaker, and bypass the preamp. LOLshermanpup wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 9:36 amPeavey Pacer 100-SS is one of the best amps if not the best for dirt box distortion. I have been using these for decades . I run them clean with a closed back modification (board with insulation screwed in the back with speaker jack) EVM 12 Proline speaker vastly improves the sound. Master on 10 ,EQ'S on 10, no reverb ,input volume low . I currently use a cheap Zoom 606 pedal and a Wah in front of the Pacer. I use this setup and a Ultra 60 112 with no effects at the same time . Mic both amps . Giant sound. The Pacer acts as a SS power amp, full range sound
Overall "best" solid state Peavey guitar amp?

I owned an Envoy for awhile. Cut out baffle and put in 12in speaker but sold it. Tried a Vypyr and returned it in a day or two.
Never owned a Bandit but played one in a music store a couple of times and liked it. I vote the Bandit.

No by-passing the pre amp . You just use the amp like a power amp , clean, no peavey distortion

Special 212 Transtube Series (Silver Stripe)
It may not be the "best" solid state amp but I was able to get some good tones out of it.

This thread should not be called "best SS Peavey amp", obviously we're never going to agree. Instead it should be named "solid state Peavey amp that you own or have played that you liked the most". Something along those lines.

I agree. It's like asking what's the best beer. The one you like the most, of course.
The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.

No bypassing pre amp , don't know where you got that, just not using pre amp distortion Covering the back and changing the speaker is not big modification. Run like a clean power amp with pedal run in front of it. Sounds better that the tube Ultra 112 ,and with both amps, it sounds great to me and many others that have complimented the sound. Been using a setup like this since 1982

I still have my Transformer 212. I always said I never needed another amp until they come out with some sort of upgraded version. Now I love my Vypyr Vip3. I just can't see sinking money into much else.
I have the Vypyr 120 as well, which is great, but I could never get over the anxiety of waiting for the tubes to go right at the worst possible time.

As I always note, buying a solid state amp is like buying a clock radio. Buying a tube amp is like buying a car. Look at the maintenance schedules to clarify.Allen wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 8:32 pmI still have my Transformer 212. I don't think you can beat the Special 130... 130 watts.. single scorpion 12... awesome workhorse.. I had one for 15 years and never had a thing go wrong with it.

My personal favorite is the old Backstage 30 of the '70s ... amazing Tweedlike tone.
