6505 help pls
Picked up a used 6505 from a friend, sounded thin so i changed all the tubes. Apon firing it up the power light was flickering and the amp was doing what sounded like a helicopter in the distance if you can picture that.like pulsating. i shut it down and restarted it, it plays but sounds very thin, has less balls then my valveking 100. any idea whats going on here? thank you in advance.
Re: 6505 help pls
SO I wonder if you have disconnected the wires from the output transformer to the power tube board? And when you reconnected it, might you have reversed it? That is the three wires red/blue/brown.

Re: 6505 help pls
So something i didnt mention, this is a relatively new amp. the guy i bought it from had it for a few months, said the same thing i have, sounded very thin apon delivery. He bought a new recto an sold the 6505 to me, he said he never opened it up or changed anything, just wanted to move on from it. Is it possible the wires were reversed from the factory and would it play for a few months without fluttering as mentioned?
Re: 6505 help pls
If there is more than one speaker in the setup, have you checked that the polarity is the same on all speakers? Out of phase speakers can sound pretty strange sometimes.
The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.

Re: 6505 help pls
I have ran it through multiple different 4x12's, its the same every time, just thin, like a neutered 6505..

Re: 6505 help pls
Today i played through the fx return, i believe that bypasses the preamp? volume was good up or down. i cleaned both sides of the fx prior. I reseated all the valves but still sounds the same. Im at a loss for words.. Anyone have any ideas at all?
Re: 6505 help pls
OK, so the power amp is OK< and the issue is in the preamp section.

Re: 6505 help pls
Any idea what would make it shutter like it did with the power light flickering?
fairly sure ill have to take it in to get fixed but theres an outside chance i can figure it out and fix it myself, id do that, i can solder very good, drain caps and can understand a multimeter.
Re: 6505 help pls
Oh the only simple thing that comes to mind is a reversed OT connector, but that is power amp and it seems yours is OK.
