Peavey 6505 piranha loud hum/static noise

Hi, I have a peavey 6505 piranha micro head plugged into the matching cab with a speaker cable, my guitar has humbucker pickups and is plugged straight into the front, I get quite a loud hum static noise that seems to diminish when I for example touch the strings or bridge of the guitar, any of the metal hardware. Are you connecting the cab with a speaker cord or guitar cord. A guitar cord will make it noisy in my experience.

Hi, yes I had it connected with a speaker cable, it has died completely now I think the noise was a real problem, the amp doesn't come on at all now.
