Re: Classic 20 combo in the house

I have two of them. One is all JJ's. The other is the ends from Cincy's set (Tung Sol in V1, Sovtek LPS in V2) in the preamp and JJ's in the power section. The 5751 in V1 will be a safe bet for you! Please post back and let us know what you think of it. That's awesome. So can you tell me the differ...

Classic 20 combo in the house

Hey guys. Very long time.

So I found a C20 combo on the local marketplace and grabbed it for a fantastic price. Got it home and my goodness this amp rips.

So, of course I want to change stuff a little. Mostly, I'd like to eek out a little more cleans.

5751 in V1?

Shout out to Roger Crimm

See, this is why I play Peavey.

Had a question about impedance on my Classic 30. Got Roger on the line and he took the time to answer my (many) questions. Solid guy. Hartley is luck to have him.

Re: Peavey Classic Series

I agree. The circuit is proven. I know they did some changes to the amp like the addition of a standby switch but I don't believe anything was changed where it counts. A couple of days ago, I found a black C30 for sale at GC. This was the older model without the logo bulge. A little dirty but she cl...

It's my understanding that they moved manufacturing over to China a couple of years ago.

Did a speaker swap on VK112

Love my VK. However a local guy was selling a mint Celestion Seventy 80 for cheap so I gave it a whirl. Initial impression is that it seems to be an overall louder speaker at 98spl. Definitely brighter in the upper mids and, perhaps because of that, not as strong on the low end like the original VK ...

Tube cage for VK112

Hey guys.

Peavey is having a hard time finding the tube cage and screws for my Valveking 112 (1st gen)

If anyone has one to sell, please PM me. Thx.

Valveking 1st gen tube question

Hey y'all. Just grabbed a VK112 (love it) It came with the original Ruby tubes but didn't include the cage that protects them. Any idea where I can order one with the required screws? Also, I have seen some folks put kt66 tubes in this amp. Is this doable and if so, how does it impact the flavor of ...

Special 212 Red or Silver Stripe?

For those who have (or who have played) the Special 212, which do you prefer? The red stripe or silver stripe version?

I know the red stripe has different voicings on each channel but I love my silver stripe Bandit and wanted to know if the ss Special is similar in tone.

Re: Ultra 60 clean channel dead

I had this exact issue when I had an Ultra 60. Ended up there were some components that went bad on the clean channel. For the life of me I have no idea which ones. I sent the chassis to Peavey and they fixed it and made sure the whole amp got a clean bill of health. Really reasonable cost as well. ...

Re: Silver Stripe Bandit drive channel issue

Yup sure enough that was the issue. I really should have known that it wasnt something "serious" based upon how bulletproof these amps are. One thing I noticed about the drive channel is that anything before 5 on the gain is very bluesy but once you get past that, it really screams. On the pre 5 set...

Silver Stripe Bandit drive channel issue

Hey guys. Long time. I've been back in amp mode of late, picking up a couple of different combos and got my hands on a silver stripe today for a great price. Brings me back to the question of why I sold the one I had. So the amp sounds as great as I remember on the clean channel. Breaks up nicely wh...

Re: Rockers how do you run your Bandit?

I play a Silver Stripe. Replaced the original Sheffield with an Eminence Wizard which I used for a good while. Great, chimey speaker. Then I got my hands on the new Jensen Jets Nighthawk which is currently in there. Heck of a speaker for the Bandit. Slightly dropped out mids and excellent low and hi...

Re: Amp heaven

Great story, fastback. And yes, welcome to the Peavey addict's club.

I've been through countless amps. My main amp is a Silver Stripe Bandit (as seen on my avatar) and I really do gauge all other amps that I try against it.

Awesome stuff and built like tanks.
