Re: 1988 Classic VTX intermittent problem

Could be a bad solder joint. If you plan on keeping the amp I agree that it should be recapped. I would also look at the power resistors.

Re: Valveking gain reduction report

Try cleaning that pot (and others if necessary) with some contact spray cleaner. May have to do it more than once. It may bring back the complete range of use.

Re: Dating My Peavey Amp

Transtube amps didn't exist in 1979. Pull the chassis and look at some of the components for dates.

Re: Mid-Late 1960's Peavey Musician Head.

I've searched several times since you posted and haven't found anything. You might try removing the chassis and look at the pots and electrolytic capacitors for dates, And sometimes there is some markings on the board or chassis that may give some clues.

Re: Bandit 75, is the volume curve tweakable?

I've owned Bandits made before and after the 75 model plus several Secial and Special 120 and none of them acted the way you describe. They could be played at low volume in clean and drive channels. I think you have something other than pot causing this problem.

Re: Peavey Bandit 112, VT series, 1981 vintage

I have to say I've never heard of a "VT Series" Bandit. If it's an 1981 it's probably just a "Bandit". The following Bandits were "Solo Series" until the Transtube Bandits came along.

The reverb pot should be a 10K ohm.

Re: Basic 112 External Speaker

I find it's usually cheaper to buy a complete combo amp than just the speaker or cab. And shipping nowdays is sometimes more than the item.

Re: Basic 112 External Speaker

Something I forget to take in account is the sensitivity rating of any given speaker. That can make a big difference in what we hear.

But in the end, if you like it that's what matters the most!

Re: Basic 112 External Speaker

A 20 watt increase is not that much louder. In some situations you wont notice any volume increace but it may sound better.

Re: 6505 +112 COMBO

The schematic will have that information. Call peavey and ask for the schematic. In the mean time trace the filiment circuit. If its fused, pull the fuse to check it. If it's blown you will have to find what blew it. Any wires or cables in the circuit need to be checked.

Re: Bandit 75, is the volume curve tweakable?

I guess I made some assumptions. I assumed it was just one channel. Have you had this amp for a while or just accuire it? If using the foot switch make sure it's plugged in all the way (2 clicks) and the Channel button is pushed In. I would still look inside and use some contact cleanner in all the ...

Filter capacitors can also be the cause of hum or noise.

Re: Bandit 75, is the volume curve tweakable?

The volume pot should be a 10K linear taper. It's possible that it has been replaced with something different. If it has a logarithmic (audio) taper it will get loud with low settings. I would pull the chassis and give all the pots, jacks and switches a good cleaning with contact spray cleaner. Look...
