Got the Guitar World magazines holiday 2011 and the Guitar world.com in the poll section read: That Synyster Gates from Avenge sevenfold is Faster than Steve Vai, The Great Kat, John Petrucci, Rusty Cooley and Yngwie Malmsteen. Wow!!

He is very fast and clean. Not sure if faster than Via, but definantly in the mix.

i thought the guys from Dragon sump'in were supposed to be way faster, than anybody else ever.... :roll:

IMO,

Best Guitarist Ever: Randy Rhoads

Runner Up: Steve Vai.

Third Place: Jimi Hendrix.

Honorable mentions to Allen Collins, SRV, and Darrell Abbott.

I think gates is good but IMO i think there is much faster players.im not a fan of speed playing/shredding.....faster isnt always better.that list was so bogus lol

Much agreed Box. I think it's impressive he can do it, but it's like watching rabbits do it. All speed, no feel. I actually find it annoying after a few seconds.

Gary Rossington has a great quote regarding players like that. He was asked about Eddie VanHalen. He responded something to the effect of, "He's awesome, he's a freak of nature but after he plays a solo you've heard every note there is to hear, what's left?"

Yes Box, in Rock and Blues, simple bending of a single note can be soulful than strings of 16th notes.
