I've had my Peavey Vypyr 60 for about 2 months now and I must say it's great. But, recently I tried to record it onto my computer to a drum track and I experienced some lag issues. When I play back the recording, the guitar sounds on time with the drums for about 20 seconds or something, and then it gradually gets worse. This leads me to believe that when I record there is slight lag. To record, I used a usb/midi cable. The usb went straight into the computer and the midi into the amp. I plugged headphones into the amp and recorded with audacity (just pressed record button and starting playing, i changed amp settings directly on the amp with the amp knobs). Any advice on how to get rid of the lag? Thanks!

Sounds like your sample rate needs changing. Check your record options, like sample bit rate if you can. I think 44khz is normal for this application.
I know when I do video if I record 12 bit audio it will loose sync with the video gradually. After a few minutes it will get a whole second off.

I checked the settings I had on audacity and under default sample rate its says 44100 Hz. Is that what you recommend or should I change it? Any other advice?

I had lag issues between the track and the recording. I went into Preferences under the Edit menu (in Audacity) and changed the latency number. It took me a few times of changing the latency setting before i got it to where i liked it.

First off. I would say dont use the USB. Use the input on your sound card.

I say this because USB is designed to transmit data. You can tell the difference with sound by plugging in high end USB headphones as opposed to the plugs on your card. Run it through the input on your card. Not only will that allow you to add other effects, but it will give you more control after amp to record.

That being said, you wont get the same quality if you are using onboard sound. A sound card has one purpose, and that is to process and output sound. A onboard sound card shares everything it does with process and RAM.

There is also a possibility that your PC, or the mixing software you are using isnt good enough to provide good results.

Lotsa things could be wrong here, from drivers to USB cable though. Keep playing with it though. Need help, gimme a PM.

You said you were using the midi socket on the back of the amp, right? You could also try using a standard USB cable (like a printer cable) running from the front of the amp to USB slot on computer. That is what works for me. Others recommend using the amp's earphone socket.

G/L!
