I've been reading through these forums and thankfully I'm not the only one with the Recording to a Memory stick problems that makes me feel better it is strange though because just like others it did this once maybe 6 months ago but now it's did it twice in one week causing a real inconvience. I'm going to try the U3 uninstall but I would really like to just use the connect to computer option using the other usb port because recording to the computer directly ensures I have my recording at the end. I've connected the cable to the computer but like others it recognizes that I attached something but it doesn't produce any audio. I was wondering if you have to uninstall the onboard soundcard to make it work or how does that work because I was thinking it might not be working because it can't have two sound devices. It's doing something though because it disables the onboard soundcard when I connect the board but with it connected there's no sound coming to or from the computer. I was wondering if there any drivers that are released generic or peavey to make it recognize it and make it work properly. Our computer has Windows Vista if that Helps. I hope to get it working so we can record straight to the computer but I will try the U3 uninstall for now and pray for the best. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With all the people having recording problems just recently, both with sticks and directly to the computers, it would be interesting to see what operating systems are having the issues.

It could easily be that a recent MS update is interfering with this process. I know XP just went through a big update and Vista gets updated constantly. There have been a few "amazing" computer viruses set loose in the past three months and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if MS was trying to plug more holes in its operating systems.

I don't know if there is a way to take a poll on the forum. Pretty sure it would have to be a webmaster setting something up.

Yet another reason I am shifting everything to a Linux based OS.....

Cheers,
Steve

Maybe Peavey and some of you out there can start a list on this forum of Memory stick brands and sizes that are known to work for you. And those sticks that have been found not to work. Just a idea :?:

Well I went to uninstall U3 but the flash I've been using didn't have U3 on it so that is definitely not the prob. I haven't had time to try connecting it to the computer again but I formatted the flash drive completely and switched the recorder to mono recording and the recording process went smoother than it's ever went so for anyone else having these issues this might be a solution for you because the quality is just as good but the files are half the size so it makes the processor work less and I don't think I'll run into anymore problems because the 2 times it did it were when I was recording for over 2 hours so I think it was just too much data for it to process because a 2 hour file was usually around 100 or 110 mb and that's a big mp3 file but by switching to mono recording it's half the size so it means less work on the processor writing the file so ultimately means at the end of the night you have a recording. I think this the solution for me and I hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.

Another problem with the really long recordings, it takes awhile for the mixer to finish writing to the drive after you hit the stop button, if you pull the drive out before it's done, your recording will disappear.

Don't take the stick out until the red light goes off.

Kingston 2 GB memory stick with original format (FAT) always do the job.
Use only to record and transport to computer the files.Avoid to record others archives.

I have tried a bit of recording direct to laptop computer.... I just connect USB cord.... turn on Audacity ...press record... no problems. I usually record to WAV files...Vista OS. Have not tried memory sticks direct to 24FX.
I can edit wav files or convert to mp3 & put on memory stick later if req.

I would hate to unfairly lay blame on any particular brand. As I have had some work or not work in the same brand. It may could be production batch issues as well. That said there are some brands that do not seem to be as consistent perhaps. Some can handle more writes and rewrites than others.

Many of the issues are improper file structure, U-3, and simple user error or lack of experience. After that there are some that won't work.
