I just received a new 15" black widow basket for the speaker that I am repairing. The old speaker was silver aluminum, the new speaker is black aluminum. The old speaker had an aluminum dust cap, the new speaker has a paper dust cap. The old speaker had push in terminals, the new speaker has large gold push in terminals.

First of all, each of the two 15" BW baskets that you have, will have a model number on them near the terminals that you described.
You need to tell us what models they are. We currently have 13 models of 15 inch Black Widows:
15" Lo Max 15" Low Rider 15" 1508-8 CU CP Pro Rider 15" 1508-8 AL CP Pro Rider 15" BWX SC 15-8 Neo 15" 1508 - 4 SPS BWX 15" 1508 - 8 SPS BWX 15" 1508 - 8 CU BWX 15" 1508 - 8 HE BWX 15" 1502 - 4 BW 15" 1502 - 8 BW 15" 1505 - 8 BW 15" 1505 - 8 KA DT
We did away with the aluminum dome quite a few years ago. Not all replacement baskets will work, as there are also completely different magnet structures.
Also you do not just drop any loudspeaker into just any enclosure. The enclosure is designed for the parameters of a given model of loudspeaker.
Give us a model number and we can recommend a replacement. Our crystal ball is broken.

Maybe you can help me. I have 2 sets of older SP2s (rectangular non covered black cabs, rated 150watts rms) that I was wondering if I could upgrade the baskets to have more power handling. I popped the handles off to see what I have and it looks like they have already been upgraded (at least a few of them). One set has 1505-8KA baskets (they do not say KA DT though). The other set is mixed. One speaker is a 1505-8 KADT but the other just says 1505-8 (it has an aluminum cap).
What I'm wondering is...
Is the KADT basket OK to use on the older speaker (the one with the aluminum cap)? The one that is already replaced seems fine.
Is the continuous rating for my cab with the KADT now at 350 watts?
Are the KA's the same as the KADT's? If not, what are the ratings on the KA's?

The KA (Kevlar Added) was used back when we initiated Kevlar impregnated cellulose. All BW's now have Kevlar cones.
The DT indicated a Deeper Throat or deeper cone. Note the DT's are indeed deeper or longer and may not fit in all enclosures.
We are constantly upgrading the transducer products. You can call or write in for Peavey publication #80305614. Titled Transducers 2009

I have a question along these lines....
I have an old style Sp218 and two new style SP218's.... I took the old one out on the road this last weekend and it definitely sounds like it needs attention. What I'm wondering is can I replace the whole transducer with a pro-rider assembly like the new style sp218's, or can I re-basket them with the pro-riders, or do I have to replace it with the original 1801-8 BW?
