I am a guitarist, but have been tinkering around with Bass as well and was wondering if there would be any harm in playing my bass through my Valveking 212 amp on an occasional basis for practicing - no gigs - It certainly would be enough power. Would it cause any harm - or do I need to turn down the low eq on the amp to cut the really low frequencies. I was looking into a small bass amp also, and came across a used Peavey Basic 60 but the more i look into it, it appears the basic 60 is used as a bass and guitar amp, so it got me thinking that I might be aable to use my VK 212 as well that way.

Any advice from a technical perspective only would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Go ahead, use it with your bass.No problem to the amp itself. It doesnt care what it is amplifying. The speakers on the other hand may not like high volume high excursion to their cones. But hey,we used to use a fender twin cranked way up for bass when we were kids and never had problems, and it actually did a good job.If your not going to blast it for hours at full tilt with a bass, your ok.But even then, that amp and its speakers will most likely not have a problem with it !

Thanks for clarifying - I had heard others say playing a bass through a guitar amp can fry the circuits, so I wanted to get some other opinions. If I turn the Lows down on the VK that should cut the lowest freqs to the speakers and keep them from working to hard. I don't plan on playing it very loud or for hours on end so it should be fine.

Thanks,
mh

Original Bassman Amp Became A Guitar Favorite.........

Power chassis OK with it.

Speakers need to be babied.

Performance level bass rigs high watts and heavy duty speakers.

Recent conversations regarding tube powered bass rigs in 200 to 300 watt range.

Just don't do what my son did and play guitar through high gain input while friend is playing bass through low gain.

Two Instruments Into One Speaker = Required Speaker Replacement!!!!!!

Interesting point Cincy,
Does it also mean that it is inadvisable to run 2 gits as well?
Or just a bass and a git in combo?

Just wondering...and not at all meaning to question you.

I'm not sure if would matter as long as you "babied" it, meaning no excessive volumes, or at least for very long.

God Bless,
Luckyman

Two guitars probably OK since they are similar........

Bass guitar just too much thump.

Bass player had his own amp in same neighborhood.

They just didn't think of the consequences........

Why should they when Dad serves as Amp Tech, Equipment Manager, & Finance Minister!

Yeah Cincy,
I had a chance to play it for a while and LOVED IT!
Told her if she ever gave up playing that she would have to give it back to me !

I try to encouraage her as much as I can...seeing how she is in Massachusettes at school...a Smithie.

God Bless,
Luckyman

The hardest job a father has is providing the required thump when needed!

Well this dad said to his kids - "Don't touch my Strat Plus or my Les Paul Standard, but you can do anything you want to the Kraemer Focus(Strat Copy) - Its bright red so they are atracted to that one anyways, and they leave my other guitars alone.
