Just heard on the news it seems at this point it was a single major that has been taken in to custody alive. The talking heads are reporting some hearsay info, but I'll wait for some official reports..........

I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment. I have my "concealed carry" permit. I found it rather odd that the only place I wasn't allowed to execute the "carry concealed" was on my last base....in fact, on Naval Support Activity, Philadelphia, no firearms are permitted at all!
And yes, criminals will always have access to weapons, just like criminals have access to everything else made illegal.
I'm not saying it would have turned out any better, because I believe any wrongful death or injury is bad, but from what I have read on Fox News, if soldiers/civilians at the Processing Center had personal sidearms, I would think fewer people would have suffered and fewer family members would be suffering today.
My $0.02. Steve

Soldiers & Police Personnel Should Be Armed & Prepared.
EVERY law abiding citizen should be prepared, and in my opinion, armed - at least in their domicile. There are 100's of excuses not to be, but in my opinion, they are just that - excuses. If you cannot defend your home, that is failure. Turn in your "head-of-household" card. V-Ray sound pressure levels will not ward off intruders. The only deterring noises I know are the 'ch-chck' as a shotgun chambers a round and the contained explosion inside the barrel of the weapon as the round performs its intended function.
In more than one instance, Theresa & I have grabbed our weapons and pointed them at people wishing to enter our home. (Sometimes the 'out in town' military housing isn't in the best neighborhood...) In both cases, the individual just waited for the police officers to show up and one of them - who later we discovered was strung out on heroin - actually got to "play" with the German Shepherds. He had stolen his parent's car and decided to lead police on a chase through San Diego, culminating in our military housing cul-de-sac and then leading police on a foot chase through our backyards, ending at my sliding glass back door. He slid the screen door open and reached for the glass door handle, Theresa - watching football - leveled her .45 at him. He correctly paused. I had alerted the officers out front that the individual they sought was in my backyard and as they got the dogs, I approached the glass door from the other angle with my 12 gauge. The dogs came around the backyard, the guy looked at the dogs, looked at us and chose not to open the door, but rather play with the puppies. Good choice.
If we don't exercise our sound systems, keep our guitars well tuned & ready for use and keep practicing & using our talents as given to us by our Maker, we will forfeit their use when we need them most.
Cheers, Steve
PS - Everyone just changed their batteries in all their smoke detectors, right? Did you conduct a blind-folded house evacuation drill too? The one where you practice rolling out of bed, on to the floor and while crawling, following walls and doorways to safely exit the house. Plus getting back to an alternate exit. Yes, my kids think their parents are nuts, but with all the different houses we have lived in (9), they are learning that others are not so well prepared and the excuses for dying in a house fire are really not well founded if you are prepared and have routinely practiced.
